Penn State baseball: Minnesota Golden Gophers bury Lions

— Minnesota pitching shut down Penn State on Saturday at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park with a 7-3 Golden Gopher victory.

Alec Crawford (3-1) and Ty McDevitt combined on the hill. Crawford gave up six hits, three runs, two earned, with one walk and two strikeouts over seven innings for the win. McDevitt tossed two hitless innings with one more strikeout to close the contest.

Ryan Abrahamson was 3-for-5 to lead the Golden Gopher offense, which pounded out 12 hits and took advantage of five walks and three Nittany Lion errors for all of their runs in the first four innings.

J.C. Coban and Zach Ell each doubled and James Coates knocked in two runs for Penn State (11-30, 2-15), while Greg Welsh (2-5) gave up eight hits, seven runs, four earned, and three walks with one strikeout over four innings in the loss. Cody Lewis struck out five over 3 2/3 innings of relief.

The teams meet again at noon Sunday.
