High School softball: Philipsburg-Osceola rolls in tourney

— A pair of Class AAAA teams proved to be no trouble for Class AA Philipsburg-Osceola as the Lady Mounties cruised to 10-0 victories against Altoona and Mifflin County in their Mountaineer Tournament on Saturday.

P-O (14-1) got a pair of outstanding pitching efforts. Chelsea Henry tossed a one-hitter in the five-inning win over Altoona in the opener. Henry walked one and struck out four. Kate Burge followed with a three-hit, six-inning shutout of Mifflin County. Burge walked one and fanned five.

Against Altoona, Haley Frank and Carly Gonder each smacked three hits. Frank belted a home run. Abby Showers added two hits. Frank, Burge and McKayla Myers each drove in two runs.

Burge helped herself against the Lady Huskies by smashing a home run and a double, while driving in four runs. Showers, Mackenzie Burge and Haylee Hayward also had two hits. The Lady Mounties blew the game open with a seven-run second inning.
