BELLEFONTE — Bellefonte emerged from a wild first inning with the lead and Stevi Confer shut out Huntingdon the rest of the way in the Lady Red Raiders’ 11-5 win on Senior Day at O’Leary Field on Monday.
Huntingdon had three of its five hits in a five-run first to grab the quick lead, but Bellefonte bounced back with seven in the bottom of the frame. Erica DeVinney’s two-run triple got the Bellefonte comeback going. Sarah Menna followed with an RBI single. Confer smacked a two-run single and scored on Taylor Maurer’s RBI triple. Olivia Ripka capped the outburst with an RBI single.
“It was heck of a first inning both ways,” Bellefonte coach Gregg Kohlhepp said.
The Lady Raiders iced it with four runs in the fifth. Alicia Allen’s two-single was the the big hit. Menna added an RBI single and Carly Chambers drew a bases-loaded walk.
Menna led Bellefonte’s 11-hit attack with three hits. DeVinney and Ripka added two each. Vanessa Cooper was hit by a pitch and intentionally walked four times.
After the first inning, Confer (8-4) allowed just two hit and two walks.
Bellefonte climbed above .500 for the first time since early in the season.
“I think we understood we were going to have our ups and downs,” Kohlhepp said. “We had to weather those and we’re playing some good softball now.”
