WINGATE — Bald Eagle Area broke open a tie game with a nine-run sixth inning for a 13-4 victory over Tyrone on Tuesday.
Ben Verbitskey had the big blow in the frame, crushing a three-run home run. Dylan Womer had an RBI single earlier in the inning before Cole Long had a two-run single, Bryan Greene later added an RBI double, Bryce Greene plated a run with a sacrifice fly and Logan Reese finished the rally with an RBI single.
Reese and Long each had 4-for-5 days at the plate.
BEA (12-4) got the big inning off Tyrone’s top pitcher, Jake Belinda, who did not get an out before being replaced in the sixth after a scoreless inning of relief in the fifth.
“We came alive when we absolutely had to,” BEA coach Jim Gardner said. “The game was in question — 4-4 in the sixth — and Belinda’s a quality pitcher. But I’m extremely happy with how aggressive we were in the sixth.”
Nate Cleaver pitched the final 1 2/3 innings and earned the win.
