Allegria Ensemble to play for chamber music month

May 10, 2013

The Allegría Ensemble will perform at four State College schools in celebration of National Chamber Music Month, a nationwide initiative to draw attention to small ensemble performance.

The Allegría Ensemble’s performance, titled “How to Listen to Classical Music: What to Know to Enjoy the Show,” will cover musical moods, compositional structure, styles, dance suites, concert etiquette and more. The concerts will be May 14 at Our Lady of Victory School; May 17 at Mount Nittany Elementary School; and June 4 at Mount Nittany Middle School for the sixth-grade class, and June 6 for the seventh- and eighth-grade classes.

The Allegría Ensemble trio — Cathy Herrera on flute, Debbie Trudeau on violin, and Jonathan Dexter on cello — will illuminate musical works by composers Haydn, Mozart, Mouret and Handel as well as many less familiar works.
