Penn State baseball: Lions fall to Illini

— Despite a late-game rally with four runs in the seventh and eighth innings, Penn State fell to Illinois 8-6 on Saturday.

The Nittany Lions (12-33, 3-17 Big Ten) will complete the three-game conference set against the Illini (30-15, 11-9 Big Ten) at noon today.

The Illini were led at the plate by Davis Hendrickson and Brandon Hohl, each going 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Hendrickson also tallied a triple while Hohl notched a double, with Jason Goldstein collecting one hit and two RBIs,.

Thomas Lindauer went 2-for-3 with one run and an RBI, while Jordan Parr collected one hit, one run and an RBI. Although Justin Parr was held to just one hit, the senior extended his NCAA-leading hitting streak to 33 games.

Four Nittany Lions collected hits, including freshman James Coates and sophomore Aaron Novak, who each went 2-for-4. Coates added a run and an RBI, as did fellow freshman Tyler Kendall, while Novak tallied a run and extended his hitting streak to eight games.

Junior Alex Farkes and junior Steve Snyder each went 2-for-5 with a run scored, with Farkes notching his second double of the season and Snyder also earning an RBI. Collecting one run, one hit and an RBI, junior Zach Ell ripped his third double of the season, while senior Luis Montesinos (Miami, Fla.) recorded one hit and an RBI.
