High school volleyball: State College nets sweep

From CDT staff reportsMay 16, 2013

— Ibrahim Almoaiqel and Eric Deshong had 13 kills each as the State College boys’ volleyball team closed out its regular season with a 25-22, 25-21, 25-14 sweep of Northern Cambria on Wednesday.

Almoaiqel and Deshong each had two aces. Noah Hanahan had 31 digs and Andrew Groves dished out 31 assists. Deshing added two blocks as the Little Lions improved to 8-7.

“We were happy to end the season with a win,” said State College coach Kim-Li Kimel, whose squad dropped Northern Cambria to 14-2. “It takes us over .500. We were hoping to get some quality touches. We struggled at times and that gives us something to work on over the next few days as we prepare for the playoffs.”

State College will face Altoona at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Tyrone for the District 6 Class AAA title. The winner will face the District 10 champ in a play-in game for the PIAA playoffs.
