High school softball: Bellefonte falls to Central Mountain

— Bellefonte rallied, but fell 12-7 Wednesday against Class AAAA Central Mountain in one of its final tuneups for the District 6 Class AAA softball tournament.

The Lady Red Raiders fell behind 8-0 but made a comeback, scoring seven combined runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Erica DeVinney had two hits and Jess McClenahan had two RBIs to lead the offense.

“We scheduled this game knowing that we were tying to get ready for the playoffs,” Bellefonte coach Gregg Kohlhepp said. “We knew this was a big test going up against a lineup that returned 10 starters.”

Rachel Bernier pitched four innings and took the loss for Bellefonte which will travel to DuBois on Friday in its final tuneup. The Lady Raiders travel to Somerset in the District 6 semifinals on May 23.
