High School volleyball: State College to face Bethel Park

From CDT staff reportsMay 27, 2013

The State College boys’ volleyball team will face Bethel Park in the first round of the PIAA tournament on Wednesday.

The game will be played at 6 p.m. At Bishop Carroll High School in Ebensburg.

The Black Hawks were the runner-up of the District 7 tournament, losing to North Allegheny 3-2 in the championship game.

The Little Lions defeated Altoona 3-0 in the District 6 title match.

The PIAA tournament has a new format this season, with a straight 16-team bracket like most other sports, instead of the old format with

a first round of matches before pool play for the quarterfinals. The State College-Bethel Park winner will meet either North Allegheny or Norwin, the District 7 third-place team, in the PIAA quarterfinals.

The championship match will be played June 8 at Penn State’s Multi-Sport Facility.
