Penn State golf: Trio of Nittany Lions in U.S. Open sectionals on Monday

Three Penn State golfers are one step away from making the field for the U.S. Open.

Current Nittany Lion Chris Houston and alumni Kevin Foley and TJ Howe all advanced in regional qualifying and will compete in 36-hole sectionals Monday for a spot in the U.S. Open, which will be played June 13-16 at Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, outside Philadelphia.

Houston will tee off at the Century Country Club and Old Oaks Country Club in Purchase, N.Y., while Howe and Foley will take their turns at the Woodmont Country Club in Rockville, Md.

Houston carded a 72 in his qualifying round at the Crumpin-Fox Club in Bernardstown, Mass. Howe matched that score to advance from the qualifier at Waynesborough Country Club in Paoli. Foley is playing professionally on the Web.com Tour.
