UNIVERSITY PARK — An offensive oriented coach, Bill O’Brien’s prowess for convincing top-flight quarterback recruits to come to Penn State only seems to be gaining steam.
The Nittany Lions added another commitment to the 2014 class when Michael O’Connor of IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. verbaled to Penn State on Saturday.
Multiple recruiting services confirmed O’Connor’s commitment, which is non-binding until he signs a letter of intent.
O’Connor, a 6-foot-4, 223-pound prospect, is rated as a four-star recruit by both Rivals.com and Lions 24/7. He joins 10 others in the current class and is the first quarterback recruit in the group. Penn State lured two talented signal callers to Happy Valley in its last class.
Vaunted quarterback recruit Christian Hackenberg chose Penn State and stuck with his commitment after the NCAA leveled Penn State with sanctions last summer. Recently, O’Brien plucked junior college transfer Tyler Ferguson from California to augment the 2013 class.
