High School softball: Philipsburg-Osceola’s game with Riverside finally on

From CDT staff reportsJune 11, 2013

Mother Nature just won’t leave the PIAA playoffs alone.

For the third time in less than a week, the Philipburg-Osceola softball team has been forced to wait for a PIAA Class AA playoff matchup.

Monday’s game against Riverside at Brockway High School was postponed because of rain. The semifinal contest has been rescheduled for Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Brockway.

The Lady Mounties (23-1) had two postponements last week before topping District 7 runner-up Deer Lakes 3-1 in the quarterfinals on Saturday. Riverside (21-0), the District 7 champ, had one rainout before disposing of District 6 runner-up Ligonier Valley 13-0 in five innings on Friday.

Prior to the Philipsburg-Osceola-Riverside clash, Neshannock (20-2) and Southern Huntingdon (20-4) will meet in a Class A semifinal at 2 p.m. at Brockway. Neshannock won the Class AA title last season.

Nearly the entire slate of PIAA baseball and softball games scheduled for Monday was rained out. The only contest played was a Class AA baseball game, with Beaver beating Quaker Valley 7-0.

The PIAA baseball and softball championship games will be played on the Penn State campus on Friday.
