High school football: Centre County programs put 10 athletes on North roster for Lezzer Lumber Football Classic

From CDT staff reportsJune 14, 2013

Centre County athletes will comprise one-quarter of the roster for the North Team for the Central Pensylvania Football Coaches Association Lezzer Lumber Football Classic.

On rosters released Thursday, 15 schools will be represented on the North roster, including all five programs from Centre County, while 13 more will be represented on the South roster for the game, which will kick off at 7 p.m. June 21 at Bald Eagle Area’s Aumni Stadium. The 29th annual Lezzer Lumber Classic is also co-sponsored by the Centre Daily Times.

State College has four athletes on the North roster, including wide receiver-defensive backs Dan Fry and Darian Herncane, along with running back-linebacker Mike Rizzuto and tight end-defensive end Troy Peterson.

Bald Eagle Area’s Cole Long is one of three quarterbacks on the North team, and also is listed at safety. He will have a big and familiar target to throw to in 6-foot-7 receiver-safety and fellow Eagle Jon Romine.

Area schools also will fill quite a few spots on the offensive and defensive lines, with Daniel Roan of Bellefonte, and Penns Valley’s Scott Johnson and Zach Harter. Philipsburg-Osceola’s Brian Matthews also will be on the roster on the offensive line and as a linebacker.

The South won last year’s contest in Huntingdon 35-28.
