ELKINS, W. Va. — State College won its last two games to secure a split in the Hardball Classic Tournament over the weekend.
After falling 14-0 to South Charlestown and 4-3 to West Virginia-St. Marys, State College rebounded to beat Grantsville, Md., 3-2 and Columbus-Pickering, Ohio 6-2.
Ben Ripka pitched six innings against Grantsville to earn the win. Ken Craig closed out the final inning for the save. Derek Van Horn and Sean O’Melia (double) each had a pair of hits in the win.
Craig tossed a six-hitter in the finale for State College (5-5 overall). Jon Herzing smacked two single and a double and drove in three runs to pace the offense. Craig added a single and a double and drove in three runs, while Alex Chertow had two singles and scored twice.
State College plays at Bellefonte at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
