Letter to the editor | Maintain ownership

June 18, 2013

For the past five years, I have been a regular visitor to Centre Crest.

I can attest that we, the people of Centre County, are getting very good value for the taxes we pay to run the county’s nursing home.

The staff does a remarkable job in caring for some very demanding but, in some cases, indigent patients.

I have serious doubts about turning Centre Crest over to the management of a nonprofit firm that would not be accountable to the people of this county.

I appreciate the efforts that Commissioner Michael Pipe has made to find new ways to meet the challenge of stabilizing costs while ensuring good care to the residents.

I hope his fellow commissioners will work with him to keep Centre Crest owned by the people.
