Letter to the editor | Separating himself from NCAA letter

June 20, 2013

The letter mentioned in the front-page article “Coaches, players back suit” (CDT Tuesday) is not what I and several others whose names appeared were under the impression we had agreed to associate our names with.

I have informed Franco Harris and others in that organization that I want my name removed.

The vindictive, self-absorbed attitude of that organization has become pathetic. It is only serving to support the misguided opinion that this is a sports-dominated university.

As a past president of the football Letterman’s Club, I only wish to support coach Bill O’Brien, his team, our university — which is rated as one of the 50 most important in the world — and the future.

These people are wallowing in the past.

It is time to come together. This organization is a destructive force and, as I have said in messages to Harris in the past, it is time for them to just shut up.
