Letter to the editor | Invisible transparency

June 20, 2013

I was in attendance at Tuesday’s county commission meeting and I was disappointed that Commissioners Steve Dershem and Chris Exarchos did not allow Centre County residents the opportunity to examine the merits of Commissioner Michael Pipe’s presentation on keeping Centre Crest a county nursing home.

Pipe devoted great time and research into his presentation and decision.

Instead, they pushed through to a vote, neglecting to keep their promise to hold additional public forums before making their decisions.

I expect my elected officials to be open and transparent with their actions and votes. This did not seem to be the case on Tuesday.

My hope is that the nonprofit board of directors will take Pipe’s ideas more seriously than his fellow commissioners did.
