BELLEFONTE — The Centre County Womens Resource Center has an entire community to thank for supporting the organization, as it held its first official open house Friday at its new Bellefonte location.
Executive Director Anne Ard said that last August, the center was told to move out of its old Temple Court Building location. By February, the center found space at 122 N. Allegheny St. and officially opened about two weeks ago after making renovations to the space that was formerly occupied by an insurance agency.
The Centre County Womens Resource Center has two offices in Centre County including its headquarters at 140 W. Nittany Ave., State College.
The resource center provides free and confidential services for women, men and children who have experienced dating or domestic violence, sexual assault or stalking. Yvette Willson, director of the civil legal representation project, added that the organization provides legal representation, and information on immigration and child support, as well.
Ard said that 15 years ago, the organization set up a satellite office in Bellefonte for two reasons to serve people in the Bellefonte area and to be close to the courthouse.
We knew it would be a big help to this part of the county, Ard said.
The organization has more than 50 volunteers who help serve as advocates and has a 24-hour hotline victims can call at 877-234-5050.
Our message is that there is help, Willson said. We provide support and assure them theyre not alone.
