Letter to the editor | Nonprofits make no quarantees

June 22, 2013

Commissioner Steve Dershem said that if Centre Crest stayed with the county it eventually would be privatized.

What if, in 20 years, the nonprofit board can’t raise enough money to operate the home? Who will step in to fund the home then?

There is no guarantee that a nonprofit won’t sell Centre Crest.

I am a Penn State student and a registered Centre County voter, and I would much rather have the home stay in the hands of the county to ensure we care for our most vulnerable citizens.
