Track & field: Penn State’s Kidder, Loxsom unable to make finals at U.S. championships

— A pair of Penn State runners turning in strong times but could not advance to the finals during Friday night’s competition at the U.S. Track and Field Championships at Drake Stadium.

Recent graduate Casimir Loxsom finished 13th overall and current Penn Stater Brannon Kidder was 15th out of the 16 runners in the semifinals for the 800-meter run. Only the top eight advanced to the finals.

Loxsom turned in a time of 1 minute, 46.73 seconds. Kidder, running in the other heat, was clocked in 1:48.82.

Earlier Friday, a pair of Nittany Lions just missed advancing in their respective events. In the 100-meter hurdles, Evonne Britton was 18th overall in the preliminaries with a time of 13.09 seconds. She missed advancing to the semifinals by two places and 0.16 seconds.

In the junior women’s 400 hurdles, Kiah Seymour was ninth in 1:00.38, missing the finals by one place and 0.11 seconds.

Also, Tori Gerlach finished fourth in 10:55.19 in the women’s junior 3,000 steeplechase.
