From CDT staff reportsJune 22, 2013

— Lemont used a four-run second inning and some strong pitching from Matt Smith to knock off Clarence 10-6 Friday.

After an error led to one run in the second, an Erik Kempton two-run double and an RBI single for Shane Regel gave the Ducks a 5-1 lead. An Eric Wolanski two-run home run in the sixth helped extend the margin as Lemont pounded out 12 hits. Nick Carothers and Trey Nicosia had three hits each.

Smith struck out six over 5 1/3 innings for the win. His big moment came in the fifth, when the Mounties loaded the bases with no outs before Smith slammed the door with three straight strikeouts. Kempton pitched the final 1 2/3 innings for the save.

Ryan MacNamara’s four hits led Clarence, while Derek Jabco had two singles and a double and two each came from the bats of Brian Kochik, Mike Lutz and Brad Young.
