BELLEFONTE — A worship service kicked off the FaithCentre’s 10-year anniversary celebration at its new food bank location Saturday.
“It was founded in June, 10 years ago to act as a faith-based social service agency for the Bellefonte area,” said Executive Director Nicole Summers. “It’s a service that has grown by leaps and bounds, and helps hundreds.”
The space at 131 S. Allegheny St. was acquired on June 3, around the corner from the group’s headquarters on 110 W. High St.
With a lot of construction ahead of them, Summers said she hopes the food bank’s new location will open this fall.
“This is a big deal for us,” she said. “We’re serving so many and expect the number of people we serve, to grow, so we needed this additional space.”
Summers said in 2007, the FaithCentre food bank served about 250 people monthly. Currently, the food bank serves 826 people a month.
“I think Bellefonte is a better place because of the FaithCentre,” said Patty Marshal, who sometimes receives assistance from the organization.
In addition, the FaithCentre also provides families in need with financial services, food and pet banks, clothes and more.
