Study: State College is second-brainiest city in U.S.

From CDT staff reportsJune 25, 2013

State College is No. 2 on a list of the country’s smartest cities in a study by a company that creates brain-training exercises.

The study from San Francisco-based Lumosity used data from more than 3.3 million people aged 15 to 85 who took one of the five exercises the company created.

The cities that topped the list are college towns.

The top spot is Ithaca, N.Y., which is home to Cornell University and Ithaca College. Rounding out the top 10 were Big Ten cities such as Lafayette and West Lafayette, Ind. (No. 3); Iowa City, Iowa (No. 4); Ann Arbor, Mich. (No. 6); Bloomington, Ind. (No. 7); and Madison, Wis. (No. 8).

State College ranked in the top five in each of the brain game exercises: speed, attention, flexibility, memory and problem solving.

Altoona was No. 75 on the list.
