A York County man was arrested Thursday on charges of raping a Penn State student in April during a work party being held at a motel on South Atherton Street.

Christopher A. Ryerse, 20, of Dillsburg, faces felony charges of rape, involuntary sexual intercourse and sexual assault and a misdemeanor count of indecent assault, according to a criminal complaint.

State College police wrote in the charging documents that Ryerse and the 21-year-old woman were former co-workers at a chain restaurant and were socializing and drinking alcohol at the Super 8 motel with other co-workers from restaurants in State College and Dillsburg.

Police alleged the woman became intoxicated and ended up in the room’s restroom. She reported waking up later in bed with Ryerse allegedly performing sexual acts on her, but she was too intoxicated to move.

At one point she began crying, but Ryerse apparently continued, police alleged.

The woman left the next morning, sought treatment at the Penn State University Health Center and confronted Ryerse about the incident over the phone. He denied having sex with her in that conversation and later to police.

Police said they found DNA evidence on the woman’s clothes that are a match to Ryerse.

He was arraigned Thursday before District Judge Carmine Prestia and was released on $100,000 unsecured bail, according to court documents.

A preliminary hearing for Ryerse is set for July 3. Court documents do not list an attorney for him.
