American Legion baseball: Cleaver helps Clarence drop Bellefonte

— Nate Cleaver tossed a two-hitter and helped himself by smacking three singles as Clarence downed Bellefonte 8-2 in American Legion baseball action on Tuesday at Governor’s Park.

Cleaver struck out six and walked five in the contest. He allowed just a pair of singles, one each by Zach Williams and Dylan Moerschbacher.

Clarence scored twice in the first inning and took control of the game with five unearned runs in the fifth. Cleaver and Otis Statham each had RBI singles in the outburst.

Jeff Koleno also had three singles for Clarence (5-7). Ben Verbitskey’s double was the lone extra base hit in the contest.

Bellefonte (4-19) will next play host to Philipsburg at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
