American Legion baseball: State College’s Craig tosses no-hitter against Beech Creek

From CDT staff reportsJuly 9, 2013

— Efforts by Beech Creek hitters against State College American Legion pitcher Kenny Craig were futile on Monday.

Craig threw a no-hitter to lead State College to a 2-0 win, coming out on top of Beech Creek starter Chuck Prost, who was nearly equally impressive.

Craig was backed by a timely offense led by Ryan Karstetter’s RBI singles in the first and third innings before Prost retired the final 13 State College hitters in order.

But Craig was unhittable.

He worked curveballs in with change ups and fast balls and ran into his only trouble in the second inning. Then, he issued a walk followed by a fielder’s choice and hit a batter to load the bases. Craig followed with a strikeout and got help from his defense, which turned an inning-ending double play to bail him out.

Craig retired the final 10 batters he faced and 17 of the last 18 to seal his no-hitter.
