Boys’ volleyball: State College’s Deshong earns All-State honors

From CDT staff reportsJuly 9, 2013

Recent State College graduate Eric Deshong has picked up honors for his brief volleyball career.

The middle blocker was named to the Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association Class AAA All-State team after helping the Little Lions to the District 6 title and a berth in the PIAA tournament. Deshong, who did not begin playing organized volleyball until his junior year, was the lone representative from District 6 on the 34-member Class AAA team chosen by the PVCA.

Deshong, who will enroll at Penn State this fall, also will join several other top players from the state on the Keystone Region Volleyball Association International High Performance team at the USA High Performance Championships in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., from July 23-28. The team, led by St. Francis head coach Mike Rumbaugh, will play against many of the other top teams from around the country as well as teams from outside the U.S.

Little Lion teammates Parker Thompson, John Weakland and Cameron Crow also will be playing at the tournament on other KRVA teams after earning spots in tryouts through the Revolution Volleyball Club in State College.
