From CDT staff reportsJuly 10, 2013

Penn State’s Kyle Carter has been named to the preseason watch list for the John Mackey Award, presented to the nation’s top collegiate tight end.

Carter, who made numerous freshman All-America teams, is one of only three sophomores on the 37-player award watch list. The honor is named after NFL Hall of Fame tight end John Mackey.

The native of Bear, Del., was second on the Nittany Lions last season with 36 receptions for 453 yards, catching two touchdowns, and was the lone freshman among the Big Ten’s leaders in catches and yards.

Penn State kicks its season off at 3:30 p.m. Aug. 31 against Syracuse at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.
