American Legion baseball: State College advances past Beech Creek in Central Penn playoffs

Ben Finlan’s pitching quieted the Beech Creek bats as State College won its opening game of the American Legion Central Penn League playoffs 3-2 on Friday evening.

Finlan held Beech Creek without a hit after allowing two second-inning runs to outduel Chuck Probst, with Sam Plafcan’s bat leading the way.

State College will face Mifflin County, a 5-1 winner over Clearfield, on Saturday.

Philipsburg also advanced with a 6-1 win over Clarence.
