Centre County Baseball League: Clarence wins opener over Spring Mills in playoffs

— An offensive outburst in the bottom of the fifth inning helped lift the Clarence Mounties to a 6-2 win over the Spring Mills Braves on Sunday afternoon to open action in the Centre County Baseball League playoffs.

Clarence leads the best-of-five opening round series 1-0.

The fifth-seeded Mounties got RBI singles from Derek Jabco, Justin Taylor and Brian Kochik in the bottom of the fifth after the Clarence defense, along with pitcher Taylor, forced three-straight ground outs. Taylor dueled Spring Mills pitcher Jordan Brennaman with Taylor fanning eight in a winning effort.

Cody Young hit a solo home run to start the third inning. Brady Waltz added an RBI for Spring Mills. The Braves host Game 2 on Monday.
