Little League Baseball: State College loses sectional game to Huntingdon

From CDT staff reportsJuly 15, 2013

— State College National’s bid for a Section 4 Little League championship got a bit tougher after National dropped a 16-6 setback to Huntingdon in six innings on Sunday.

The usually stingy State College defense, which shined in National’s six wins leading up to Sunday’s contest, faltered early and often against Huntingdon.

State College kicked the ball around, producing seven errors and helping Huntingdon score runs in bunches in the winner’s bracket game.

National will play against Indiana in loser’s bracket action on Monday. State College beat Indiana 10-1 Saturday afternoon. The winner of that game will get a rematch with Huntingdon for a spot in the state tournament. Indiana ousted Red Land in a game earlier Sunday.

State College will look to do against Indiana what it could not accomplish versus Huntingdon. National failed to cash in on a sturdy effort from starting pitcher David Shoemaker.

Shoemaker went 3 1/3 innings and fanned seven Huntingdon hitters in that span.

Tyler Gulley got it done at the plate again. Gulley followed a five-RBI game on Saturday against Indiana with three more hits and an RBI against Huntingdon. Gulley singled, doubled and launched a solo home run.
