Centre County Baseball League: Philipsburg drubs Pleasant Gap

— The top seed lived up to its billing as No. 1 Philipsburg hammered No. 8 Pleasant Gap 16-1 in their playoff opener in the Centre County Baseball League.

The Pirates, who entered the postseason unbeaten, shot out to a quick 3-0 lead, then piled 10 runs on in the bottom of the fifth to shut the door on Pleasant Gap and take a 1-0 series lead.

Parker Watson drilled two doubles for Philipsburg while Matt Curtis added another. Matt McCamley hit a home run for Philipsburg.

Devin Alterio led the Peppers with a double. Game 2 is Tuesday at Governor’s Park.
