County league baseball: Spring Mills uses long ball to beat Clarence

From CDT staff reportsJuly 16, 2013

SPRING MILLS — The Spring Mills Braves got homer happy in an 8-7 win over the Clarence Mounties on Monday.

Spring Mills used four home runs to score all its runs and even the first-round Centre County Baseball League playoff series with Clarence 1-1. The best-of-five series heads back to Clarence for Game 3 on Thursday.

After Clarence took an early 2-0 lead, the Braves responded in the bottom of the first, when Jordan Shainholtz drilled a two-run shot that would be a foreshadowing of things to come. Mike Vogt added a two-run homer in the bottom of the fourth while Elliott Riley added a solo shot in the sixth.

Trailing 7-5 with no outs in the final frame, Jordan Brennan and Brady Waltz hit back-to-back singles to get on base and Cody Young brought them home with a game-winning walk-off three-run shot.

Brian Kochik, John Schall and Ryan MacNamara added two hits apiece for Clarence.
