Truck driver killed in fiery two-truck crash in Clinton County

From CDT staff reportsJuly 17, 2013

— A truck driver was killed in a fiery two-truck crash on Interstate 80 in Clinton County on Wednesday morning, closing down the road for most of the day.

State Police in Lamar said the truck driver who was killed had not been identified. The second truck driver, Andrew Achterhof, 26, of Muskegon, Mich., sustained no injuries, police said.

The crash occurred at 10:38 a.m. in Greene Township near Lock Haven at mile marker 181.3, police said. Both trucks were heading east in the right-hand travel lanes when Achterhof’s truck was struck from behind by a second semi, which burst into flames.

Achterhof and other motorists tried to pull the victim from the burning truck but were unsuccessful, as flames engulfed the cab.
