Letter to the editor | Taking aim at an editorial

July 18, 2013

The Centre Daily Times’ July 11 editorial, “Reckless handling of a gun,” was about a man who dropped his pistol on the ground in the parking lot of Wal-Mart in State College. He picked it up and the gun went off, shooting him in the hand.

The man had a valid gun permit.

The CDT view of the mishap is what could have happened to someone else.

If the CDT wanted to write an article on reckless gun handling, here’s one: In Chicago over the Fourth of July weekend there were 72 shootings and 12 deaths.

Do you think most of these shooters had permits?

Chicago has some of the strictest gun laws on the books. I don’t know where the CDT was going with this article on guns, but in my view, I have a pretty good idea where they were going with it.
