Police: Teens to be charged with attempting to steal Ichabod Lane sign at Sleepy Hollow Road

— Two teens face theft-related charges after they were caught in the act of attempting to take a road sign, state police at Philipsburg said.

Benjamin Colyer, of Philipsburg, and Brian Mathews, of Osceola Mills, both 18, were arrested early Wednesday morning at the intersection of Sleepy Hollow Road and Ichabod Lane and will be charged with criminal attempt, criminal conspiracy and possessing instruments of crime.

Police said they encountered a car at the intersection with its lights off at 3:48 a.m. Police said one person was in the car and another was found hiding near the passenger-side front tire.

“Through the course of the investigation, it was determined that the individuals were in the process of attempting to steal the Ichabod (Lane) road sign,” police said in a news report.

No further information was immediately available.
