A 20-year-old Osceola Mills man was struck and killed by a vehicle late Tuesday as he was lying on a Chester Hill roadway.

State police at Clearfield said Joshua Barger died when he was run over by a sedan at about 9:50 p.m. on Walton Street near its intersection with Scott Lane in Chester Hill.

Police said the 23-year-old driver did not see Barger, who was lying in the northbound lane. The driver, also of Osceola Mills, has not been charged, according to a report from police.

It’s unclear why Barger was lying in the road. Police did not release additional details, and a trooper who answered the phone Wednesday said the investigating trooper was out until early next week.

Clearfield County Coroner Mike Morris, whose office pronounced Barger dead at the scene, said the man apparently wasn’t lying across the roadway. Morris said it’s possible the man fell.

Barger died of blunt force trauma, and the cause likely will be ruled accidental, Morris said.

Officials are awaiting results of toxicology tests, but that could take months.
