Police: Woman attempts to steal $1,200 in merchandise from Benner Pike Wal-Mart

A woman was arrested and charged after attempting to steal almost $1,200 of merchandise from the Benner Pike Wal-Mart Sunday afternoon, State College police said.

Siera McGhee was charged with first-degree misdemeanor retail theft, trying to leave the store without paying for multiple carts full of groceries and other items, police said. The 24-year-old has been linked to multiple incidents of theft in the past, according to court documents.

She is being held in Centre County Correctional Facility in lieu of $5,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is set for Aug. 14.
