Letter to the editor | Metal detectors help save lives

August 13, 2013

I was shocked but not surprised to read of a shooting at the Ross Township municipal meeting, killing three people. This tragedy could have been prevented.

Local municipalities in Pennsylvania do not have the legal right to install metal detectors in their municipal buildings to keep firearms out, although Pennsylvania law permits metal detectors in county and state buildings.

Pennsylvania municipalities are excluded from that law. This is protection that our representatives and senators can give us through a simple amendment.

Who would be against giving local municipal officials the same protection that our county and state officials enjoy?
