State College Spikes: Four Spikes play in All-Star game but National League loses to American League

From CDT staff reportsAugust 14, 2013

— Cesar Valera got a force out at second but Brooklyn Cyclone L.J. Mazzilli couldn’t turn the double play and the American League All-Stars defeated the National League All-Stars 4-3 on Tuesday night.

Claudio Bautista came home to score the winning run for the American League in Tuesday night’s All-Star Game. Bautista reached base earlier in the inning on a fielding error by Valera.

Valera, one of four Spikes who played in the game, went 0-1 while State College’s David Washington, Jimmy Bosco and Steven Ramos also played in the game at Dodd Stadium. Ramos and Bosco both collected two-hit nights — the only players to do so in the game. David Washington started at first base for the National League and went 0-for-3. Ramos started in center field and also stole a base.

Outfielder Ronald Castillo was named as a starter before the game but did not play.
