Lemont man arrested after allegedly swinging pool stick at police officers

From CDT staff reportsAugust 18, 2013

A Lemont man was arrested early Sunday morning after he allegedly became aggressive with police as they responded to a fight at the Phyrst.

Matthew Gutierrez, 24, was charged with resisting arrest, simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct.

Police had responded to the Phyrst at 1:41 a.m. for a report of a fight.

Police said employees had asked another man to leave the bar after he began acting belligerent. When the man was being escorted outside, a fight broke out in front of the bar at 111 E. Beaver Ave.

Police said a bar employee suffered an injury to his leg during the incident.

Charges are pending against the man in the fight.

While police were responding to that incident, Gutierrez became aggressive, police said. Gutierrez was at the bar, but was not involved in the original fight, police said.

Gutierrez allegedly swung a pool stick at police officers and was taken into custody.

Gutierrez was remanded to the Centre County prison on $10,000 bond.
