The Penn State fall semester will get a grand opening when Zedd pays a visit to the university. Named the breakout DJ of 2013 by Billboard, the Russian-German musician and producer will perform his unique set of electronic music at the Bryce Jordan Center on Aug 30.

Born Anton Zaslavski in Russia and raised in Kaiserslautern, Germany, but known primarily by his stage name, Zedd began playing piano and drums at the age of 4. After playing for the German band Dioramic in 2002, Zedd began to take an interest in producing electronic music.

Zedd first broke into the scene when he won two Beatport remix contests. His first original release, “The Anthem,” broke into the Beatport Electro house Top 20. He then followed that up with his remix of Skrillex’s “Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites,” which broke into the Beatport Electro house Top 10 charts.

The 23-year-old has since produced remixes for several well-known artists, including the BlackEyed Peas, Lady Gaga, P. Diddy, Swedish House Mafia and Skrillex, and he is currently producing Lady Gaga’s upcoming album “ARTPOP.”

The German wunderkind has since topped the charts with the title track “Clarity,” from his 2012 album of the same name and featuring English singer Foxes on vocals. The song has been certified platinum in the U.S. by the R.I.A.A., selling more than 1.2 million records.

“The success ‘Clarity’ is having is surreal,” he said. “It’s exponentially surpassed all my expectations and taken on a life of its own outside of what I thought was possible.”

At 9 p.m. Aug. 25, fans can tune in to MTV to watch the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards. Zedd is nominated for Artist to Watch.
