State College police report citation increase, alleged rape

From CDT staff reportsAugust 25, 2013

State College police reported a recent increase in crimes and violations downtown.

Lt. Mark Argiro attributed the increase to Penn State students moving back to town for the fall semester.

Argiro said overnight Friday and into Saturday there were two DUIs, nine alcohol and minor-related charges, one disorderly conduct, two ordinance violations and one public intoxication.

The citations continued throughout the day Saturday, he said.

State College Police also reported two sexual assault cases — one which police are still investigating. Police said the alleged victim dropped the charges in the second case.

Argiro said police are looking into a forcible rape case against a Penn State student.

The incident is alleged to have happened around 3:48 a.m. Friday. No other information was released.
