High School golf: Little Lions place third in Mid Penn match

— Tyrus Gates fired a 5-over par 76 to lead State College to a third-place finish among six teams in a Mid Penn boys’ golf match on Wednesday at Hershey Country Club.

Hershey won a tight team race with a 397 total. Central Dauphin (401) was second and the Little Lions (403) were third. Lower Dauphin (406), Palmyra (483) and Central Dauphin East (498) followed.

Christian Friberg finished a shot behind Gates with a 77. Ben Gelenberg and Kevin Zuercher each carded rounds of 82, while Alex Stover had an 86 to round out the scoring for State College (15-6 overall, 13-5 conference).

Lower Dauphin’s Tyler Maiman earned medalist honors with a 73.

“I’m thankful we got it in,” State College coach Keith Bless said. “The weather was a little spotty.”
