Penn State basketball: Nittany Lions to face Michigan State in Big Ten basketball opener

— The Penn State men’s basketball team will open its Big Ten season against Michigan State at the Bryce Jordan Center on Dec. 31 as the league schedule was announced Tuesday.

The Nittany Lions have nine Big Ten home dates for the coming season. Patrick Chambers’ club will also host Minnesota (Jan. 8), Indiana (Jan. 11), Nebraska (Jan. 23) , Purdue (Feb. 2), Illinois (Feb. 9), Iowa (Feb. 15), Ohio State (Feb. 27) and Wisconsin (March 2).

Penn State’s conference road opponents are Illinois (Jan. 4), Michigan (Jan. 14), Purdue (Jan. 18), Ohio State (Jan. 28), Michigan State (Feb. 6), Indiana (Feb. 12), Nebraska (Feb. 20), Northwestern (March 6) and Minnesota (March 6).

The Nittany Lions (10-21 overall, 2-16 Big Ten last season) open their regular season against Wagner on Nov. 9 at the Jordan Center.
