Dirt bike crash sends Philipsburg teen to hospital with head injury

— A Philipsburg teen was taken to UPMC Altoona Hospital early Wednesday with a head injury following a motorcycle crash, state police at Clearfield said.

Matthew N. Litz, 18, was not wearing a helmet when he lost control of his 2009 Yamaha 450 dirt bike while traveling on state Route 53.

Police said the bike went off the left shoulder of the road and struck a solid cement post about 72 feet from the road. Litz was thrown from the bike and found about 12 feet away.

He was taken from the scene by ambulance and then flown to the Altoona hospital.

Police said they continue to investigate the crash.

Assisting at the scene were Morris Township Volunteer Fire Company, Stat Medivac and Emigh’s Towing, police said.
