Girls’ tennis: State College blanks Mifflin County

September 5, 2013

— State College players did not drop a set as the Lady Little Lions rolled over Mifflin County 5-0 on Wednesday.

The closest match came at No. 1 doubles as State College’s Caitlin McGlaughlin and Caroline Whitman won a first-set tiebreaker before disposing of the Huskies’ Kate Arnold and Jess Wright 7-6, 6-3. Lacey Schroeder and Cassie Walter cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles.

The Lady Little Lions did not drop more than two games in a set in the three singles matches. No. 1 Cathy Badding (6-1, 6-2), No. 2 Juliette Greer (6-2, 6-2) and No. 3 Amy Poissant (6-0, 6-2) each scored easy wins.

“The girls did a nice job today,” State College coach Jane Borden said. “We need to continue to work hard and challenge each other as a team so that we can continue to improve each day.”
