Altoona man found guilty on felony drug charges

From CDT staff reportsSeptember 7, 2013

— An Altoona man caught with $18,000 worth of heroin during a traffic stop on Interstate 99 in Centre County was convicted on felony drug charges Friday.

A Centre County jury convicted Al Muminy Diaz, 35, on all charges following a one-day trial. He faces a minimum five-year prison sentence because of prior convictions and the amount of heroin.

Assistant District Attorney Nathan Boob told the jury that Diaz was transporting the drugs from New Jersey to Altoona in January when he was pulled over by state police in Centre County.

Boob said Diaz admitted to police he was a drug dealer, saying “I run this (expletive)... I just do this to survive.”

“Mr. Diaz was in the business of peddling poison at the expense of each of the addicts he supplies,” Boob said. “He survives at their expense.”
