Letter to the editor | There has to be a better way

September 7, 2013

I hope our elected representatives will consider another option when they are asked to vote on whether to strike Syria with military force or to show opposition to such action.

Instead of escalating this regional war by proxy, it would be in the greater interest of world peace and the people of Syria to attempt to broker a cease-fire and then attempt to establish a peace agreement.

This would involve gathering together Russia, Iran, the United States, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and a few other players in this out-of-hand madness that is causing the loss of far too many lives.

No matter who is guilty of the use of chemical weapons, more violence rained upon the Syrian people is not an answer to this horror.

I hope others will agree and write or call their senators and representative in support of this idea.
