Boys' soccer: Bellefonte, Philipsburg-Osceola play to tie

State College - Centre Daily TimesSeptember 10, 2013

— In a rematch of last season’s District 6 Class AA boys’ soccer championship, neither Bellefonte or Philipsburg-Osceola could crack each other’s defense as the teams settled for a 0-0 tie on Monday.

The two squads combined for 18 shots, but none found the net.

“It was well-played game,” Bellefonte coach Scott Martz said. “Both teams had some opportunites.”

Bellefonte (2-2-1) had several chances in double overtime according to Martz. The Red Raiders had a couple of shots clang off the post and another ball trickle in front of the Mounties’ goal mouth. P-O keeper Mitchell Winters stopped 10 shots.

P-O’s best scoring chances came off corner kicks. The Mounties (1-1-1) held a 7-3 edge in corners, but couldn’t push the ball past Red Raider keeper Matt Feldman, who had seven saves.

“The goal is at the north end of the field and we need to get out our compass,” said P-O coach Shawn Inlow, whose team has scored one goal in three games.
